Campaigning

Shpresa knows that the best services are run by those with lived experience who can act as role models to inspire, motivate and encourage others. We do not run services ‘for’ people, instead we run them ‘with’ people.

We provide the information and support to enable people to make positive changes in their own lives and then to bring positive change to the lives of others. We believe everyone can play a part in creating vibrant active communities where people are supported and empowered to achieve their full potential.

We know we cannot do this alone. We invest in solid partnerships with agencies that share our values. Together we know we can make a real and lasting difference to individuals, families and communities.

And while we are on the journey towards our goals we share what we have learnt with others to enable them to develop work informed by our experience: by what we found helped and what did not!

Shpresa is proud to have:

  • Launched a campaign to have the Albanian language taught as a GCSE. Our community of young people has raised over £70,000 towards this campaign which will enable them to study their language at school alongside their peers

  • Campaigned with London Citizens to welcome refugees, keep the streets safe and support a living wage. We do not only support campaigns which affect our community, we use our experience to help and inspire others

  • Been instrumental in the campaign to end the immigration detention of children.

We fund our campaigning work ourselves
– we want to make a difference and we work hard to do so.

SHPRESA'S CAMPAIGN VIDEO TO END CHILD DETENTION

WORKING WITH THE YORK BASED ORGANISATION END CHILD DETENTION NOW, MARCH 2011

We empowered members of the Albanian community to talk and share their experiences with TELCO (The East London Communities Organisation - a chapter of London Citizens, a registered charity which develops skills and leadership capacity in the neighbourhoods). Some of our members spoke to more than 1,000 people about their experiences as refugees and asylum seekers and their right to citizenship.
